Referendum successful for $1.3M purchase of former French Creek School by RDN
PARKSVILLE — Buying a former school property is likely proceeding following a referendum process.
A majority of voters in the Regional District of Nanaimo’s Electoral Area F, encompassing Errington, Coombs and Hilliers passed a referendum for the RDN to purchase the former French Creek school property on Hwy. 4A for $1.3 million.
Preliminary results counted on Saturday, Oct. 27 showed 265 votes (64.8 per cent) for, and 144 votes (35.2 per cent) against, including ballots cast on two advanced voting days and Saturday’s referendum.
Around $824,000 of the purchase price is set to come from long-term borrowing, with the remaining funds pulled from community reserve accounts and the RDN’s Community Works Fund.
