Eight different Clippers hit the scoresheet in win over Kings

POWELL RIVER — The Clippers had their biggest offensive performance of the season in an 8-3 win over the Powell River Kings.

Nanaimo had eight different goal scorers and were in control for most of the night.

Patrick Fortune, Carson Lesiuk and Jesse Venturo scored in a 24 second span early in the first period to get the team on track after suffering through a three game losing streak.

Sam Boisvert and Antoine Cormier, in his first game with the Clippers, extended the lead to 5-0 by the time the game was 14 minutes old.

Then Powell River made a push.

Chris Battaini scored in the first period and Marek Beaudoin and Dante Ersoni tallied in the first five minutes of the middle frame to draw the Kings within two.

But Elliot Perreault and Jack Rimmer counted goals before the second intermission and a Tanner Bruender power play marker capped the scoring in the third.

In total 14 different Clippers had points.

Each team used both of their goalies in the contest. The Kings pulled started David Skacel after five goals in favour of Erik Powers and the Clippers were forced to bring in Dryden Riley when Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau left with an injury in the second period.

Perreault also left the game with an injury in the third period and he and Seguin-Lescarbeau both required stitches.

The final shots were 38-26 in Nanaimo’s favour with the Clippers going 1/3 on the man advantage and 2/2 killing penalties.

Nanaimo’s season high eight goals was a sharp contrast from giving up a season most nine in their previous outing in Prince George.

The Clippers play in Powell River again on Oct. 25 before returning home to face the Victoria Grizzlies on Halloween.
