Clippers have eye on the future at upcoming BCHL Showcase

Oct 9, 2025 | 12:40 PM

NANAIMO — The Clippers will travel to Abbotsford during the Thanksgiving long weekend to play in the annual BCHL Showcase.

They have 10 a.m. games on both Monday, Oct. 13 and Tuesday, Oct. 14 against Okotoks and Trail. Scouts from all over the college and university hockey landscape in Canada and the U.S. will be there looking for future talent.

Six Nanaimo players are committed to NCAA division programs already but most of the roster is hoping to secure a spot at the college for next year or beyond.

For 2005 born players, like Kye Benoche, it will be the last time he’ll have an opportunity to perform in front of the volume of scouts the event attracts, before his junior eligibility ends.

“It’s going to mean a lot even though in the grand scheme of things it’s only two games,” Benoche said. “As an ’05 it’s a good last chance to play my best and see what I can get going for college and the future.”

Elliot Perreault is going to his second showcase event with the Clippers and he’s hoping the experience will be better than it was in 2024.

“If you work hard and play well it just comes to fruition,” Perreault explained. “If the team does well individually we’ll find success. Last year we lost two games and it didn’t sit well with anyone but if you win the scouts look at you and that’s where my head is at. It’s all about the team and how we can be better moving forward.”

Owen Davies came to the Clippers from the Ontario Junior Hockey League in the offseason and is looking to secure a college hockey opportunity.

He said being consistent and not trying to do too much is important.

“I think you have to treat it the same it’s two games in the regular season. There’s going to be a lot of people watching but you can’t play any differently and you have to put the team first. It’s the teams that win that guys get noticed on. I’m just going to do my part for the team and see what comes of it.”

Clippers highlights from games Oct. 3 and 4 against the Capitals and Bulldogs.

With the Clippers getting off to a 4-1-1 start they will be one of the teams that scouts will make a point of following.

In most years there is a bump in NCAA commitments in the days and weeks following the BCHL Showcase.
