Clippers beat division leading Capitals for second time in school day game

NANAIMO — The Clippers have the Capitals number in the early part of the BCHL season.

Nanaimo followed up a 7-4 win over Cowichan Valley on Oct. 3 with a 1-0 shutout win on home ice on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

The game was played in front of students from eight School District 68 schools with a noon start. Many of the fans were from grades three to seven with an official attendance count of 1,312.

Justin Collins notched a breakaway in the first period on a day that belonged to the goalies.

Collins goal was set up by Nathan Larioza who has points in a six Clippers games and leads the BCHL in both assists with nine and and also defenceman scoring with nine.

Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau stopped all 28 shots he faced while he earned his second shutout in five starts this season.

Rhett Stoesser was very good for Cowichan as well with a 23 save performance.

Nanaimo went 0/4 on the man advantage and 3/3 killing penalties.

With a 4-1-1 record the Clippers sit second in the Coastal West Division and they have points in their last five hockey games in a row.

Nanaimo hosts Salmon Arm on Oct. 10 before traveling to the BCHL Showcase to play on Oct. 13 and 14.
