NANAIMO — The Clippers toppled Cowichan Valley 7-4 to hand the Capitals their first loss of the season.

Nanaimo improved to 3-1 in game they led wire to wire.

Charles Beland notched a first period power play goal to stake Nanaimo to a first period lead and then the game opened up in the middle frame.

A quick shot from Kye Benoche, a pair of tallies by Hayden Fechner and the first BCHL goal for Harrison Boldt put the Clippers up 5-0.

Late period markers by Justin Pavese and Kole Keen brought the score to 5-2 through 40 minutes.

An early power play goal 20 seconds into the third put Cowichan Valley within striking distance until an Ellliot Perreault deflection goal restored a three goal Nanaimo advantage.

Keen scored in the late going on a Capitals power play and Clippers captain Carson Leaiuk put in an empty netter to give Nanaimo some insurance,

Both teans had 23 shots and went 2/3 on the power play.

Fechner has been wielding a hot stick with five goals in three games including back to back two goal efforts and Perrault has now scored in all four Clippers games this season.

It was the first time the Clippers and Capitals have played head to head since Cowichan ended Nanaimo’s season in five games in the first round of the 2025 BCHL playoffs.

The Clippers next travel to Alberni Valley to take on the Bulldogs on Oct. 4.

Nanaimo and Alberni split their first two games of the current campaign, each winning on the road in a home and home series.
