NANAIMO — Investigators are looking into the circumstances behind the shooting of a dog.

Officers were called to an area near the Holly Ave. and Rosehill St. intersection just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 after reports came in of shots being fired.

“Members got on scene pretty quick and a dog was found shot,” Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW. “No individuals were shot, the suspect is at large and we don’t know the motive behind it.”

O’Brien said it appears to be a “targeted incident” but they’re unsure who is responsible at this time.

Police had around a half block radius blocked off from traffic Saturday morning as investigators worked the scene.

“There will be members on scene over the next little while collecting forensic evidence, so please don’t be concerned about that,” O’Brien added.

If anyone has any information regarding the shooting, they’re asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250 754 2345.
