NANAIMO — The Clippers responded to a 5-2 loss on opening night with a 4-2 victory over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

In a weekend home and home series, each team spoiled the others home opener.

The Bulldogs did score first on night two of the season on a Kai Matthew blast from the right wing in the first period.

Nanaimo had a strong second period push on goals by Hayden Fechner on a dash down the left wing and a Charles Beland power play deflection.

Both of the Clippers first two goals were set up by Nathan Larioza.

Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau was particularly strong in goal with some post to post stops especially on a five on three Nanaimo penalty kill in the middle frame.

The Clippers took a 2-1 lead into the third period and got some insurance on a Mitchell Patrick deflection with six minutes to play.

Then both teams scored with the Bulldogs net empty in the final minute.

Matthew got his second of the game to get Alberni within one and Elliot Perreault knocked in an empty netter to bring the score to 4-2.

Seguin-Lescarbeau was the game’s first star with 31 saves while the Bulldogs Ryder Shea was also strong with 27 stops.

The Clippers went 1/4 on the man advantage and 6/6 killing penalties.

Nanaimo’s next game is at home to the Langley Rivermen on Sept. 26.
