NANAIMO — A significant seizure by Nanaimo RCMP involved drugs, stolen property and a replica handgun from a suspected trespasser in downtown Nanaimo.

The Nanaimo RCMP bike unit was patrolling on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 9, near 1 Port Dr., when they saw a man and woman on the railway tracks pushing a “very expensive looking E-bike”, according to an RCMP release.

Police stopped the pair and checked the serial number on the $9,000 e-bike, revealing the bike was reported stolen.

A 39-year-old man was then arrested for possession of stolen property.

A search of him found a replica firearm, almost $9,000 in Canadian currency, 137 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 40 grams of suspected cocaine, four grams of suspected fentanyl, 29 oxycodone tablets, 14 hydromorphone tablets, and 70 supeudol (pain medication opioids) tablets.

The man was then released, while charges are pending against him.

“This is just another example of the fine work carried out daily by our front-line officers, which showcases their continued commitment to keep our community safe by removing drugs, weapons and recovering stolen property,” Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP stated.

The woman is not facing any charges.
