Mt. Underwood fire still "being held"

Fire conditions downgraded

While little has changed on the Mount Underwood fire, many related issues are returning to normal.

The fire remains classified as ‘Being Held’ at 3,525 hectares as ground crews and helicopters continue to douse buried hotspots.

After weeks of uncertainty around the potential threat to our water supply, the City of Port Alberni has lowered water restrictions back to Stage 1.

Also, the State of Local Emergency announced by the City of Port Alberni has now been cancelled.

The State of Local Emergency for the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District has been extended however, and will remain in place until Franklin River Road between Port Alberni and Bamfield can be safely re-opened, which could take another month.
