Two customers injured after vehicle drives into Parksville business

PARKSVILLE — Two people received minor injuries after a vehicle drove through the front of a nail salon, coming to a rest inside and causing considerable damage.

The incident occurred on Monday, Aug. 25 at around 11:30 a.m. at the Mable Nail Bar off McCarter St. in the city’s downtown, where the driver of an SUV jumped the curb and crashed through the front of the business, with the vehicle fully inside before coming to a stop.

Cst. Tim Kenning with the Oceanside RCMP said it appears to have been an accident caused by the “experienced driver”.

“The vehicle just went off-road and through the business. A couple of people were injured, just minor injuries to two customers inside the store. There was no indication at all of any impairment by alcohol or drugs, so that’s been ruled out as a contributing factor.”

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police, and was issued a “driving without consideration” ticket, also known as a careless driving charge.

Kenning said the damage done to the business was “quite significant”, with the area blocked off for some time as the scene was cleaned up, but the area was reopened early Monday afternoon.

“The vehicle did go right through sort of a big glass entryway and physically made it all the way inside the business. Definitely a mistake, which caused quite a commotion.”

Mable Nail Bar will be closed for an undetermined amount of time following this incident, with updates expected through their social media.

A number of emergency vehicles were on scene just before noon on Monday in Parksville, with the end of the SUV inside the store still visible. (Submitted)
