NANAIMO — A high court judge rejected a man’s second bid at pretrial release following high-profile drug and weapons busts by Nanaimo RCMP last September.

Gerid Gregory-Allen was denied bail following an application crafted by his lawyer and contested by federal crown prosecutor Jenny Rutherford.

Details of the bail hearing are sealed under a court-ordered publication ban to protect the integrity of future legal proceedings.

NanaimoNewsNOW is only permitted to relay the results of the hearing, outlined during an oral ruling by BC Supreme Court Justice Judith Hoffman on Thursday, July 31, in Nanaimo.

Gregory-Allen faces two sets of serious charges: a dozen drug trafficking and weapons counts in relation to incidents on Sept. 12 in Nanaimo, where he was arrested at the overdose prevention site (OPS).

He’s also charged with five drug trafficking charges following his arrest on May 2, which also occurred in Nanaimo.

Gregory-Allen attended the bail hearing judgment via video from the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre in Saanich.

He was previously denied bail on Nov. 1 by a provincial court judge.

He and co-accused Sara Lynn Koshman are slated to go on trial in a BC Supreme Court in Nanaimo in May 2026 in relation to a highly publicized drug bust at Nanaimo’s OPS, located on Albert and Dunsmuir streets.

A Nanaimo motel room was also searched as part of the investigation

Described by Nanaimo Mounties as a “significant drugs and weapons bust”, a range of drugs and weapons were located at both locations, including a loaded pistol at the OPS.

Trial dates have not yet been established for Gregory-Allen in relation to the May 2 allegations.

Koshman, who’s currently out on bail, faces three drug trafficking charges and three weapons counts.

None of the allegations against Gerid Gregory-Allen and Sara Lynn Koshman have been proven in court.

The OPS raid generated significant community-level dialogue about safety and security at Nanaimo’s OPS, a seven-day-a-week service provided by the Canadian Mental Health Association’s mid-Island branch under contract from Island Health.
