COMOX — The family of a young mother and infant who passed away last week after being struck by a falling tree near Comox Lake is planning a community memorial to honour their lost loved ones.

On Thursday, July 31, a 26-year-old woman and her five-month-old child were tragically killed when they were struck by a falling tree near Comox Lake.

On Wednesday, Aug. 6, the family of the deceased released a statement through the Comox Valley RCMP, as well as a photo of the two, known only as Lynae and Elias.

Family Statement:

“We are heartbroken by the tragedy that took place at Comox Lake on July 31 (2025).

Thank you to the police, paramedics, and people on the beach who tried to save our beautiful babies who we know are safe in the arms of Jesus. We are so grateful.

We invite you to join us at Comox Marina Park on Sunday, August 10th at 6pm for a community gathering to share in the love that Lynae and Elias brought to this earth and to thank the community for their support.

Should you wish to donate in honour of Lynae and Elias, donations can be made to the Nesting Place Society.”

Despite the best efforts from first responders and bystanders who stepped in to help, the mother passed away at the scene. The child was transported to a nearby hospital, but did not survive.

Comox Valley RCMP, together with the BC Coroners Service, are investigating to determine the exact circumstances leading to their deaths. However, the RCMP said based on initial information, “no criminality is suspected.”

BC Emergency Health Services said they received a call for ambulances to attend the 1100 block of Comox Lake Road on July 31, at 1:44 p.m., the address for Cumberland Lake Park Campground.

It says paramedics did transport one patient in critical condition to hospital.

No further information on this incident is expected to be released.
