Provincial firefighters were stood down around 10:20 a.m. according to reports from the scene.

No word on a cause of the fire is available.

The fire appears to have been limited to grassland only, with no structures affected, but was burning close to Hwy. 19 with traffic very slow in the area.

It’s one of just three fires burning in Vancouver Island, the other two are listed as under control.
