Parksville mobile home fire claims woman’s life

PARKSVILLE —A fully-involved structure fire in Parksville turned tragic over the weekend.

Parksville Fire Rescue chief Marc Norris said they responded to a mobile home on Corfield St. North near the city’s waterfront on Saturday, June 28, around 6:50 p.m.

“We arrived to a heavily involved fire to the unit and exposure to the east. Our firefighters, within about 20 minutes, had the fire knocked down, and unfortunately, discovered an occupant at that time,” Norris told NanaimoNewsNOW.

He said it’s believed nobody else was in the mobile home at the time, and that it’s not known what ignited the fire.

Norris said mobile homes often quickly ignite.

“I think any fire inside a structure is challenging; mobile homes are of lighter weight construction, which means they can become consumed more quickly.”

As of the afternoon of Monday, June 30, Norris said the cause of the fire was still unknown.

He noted the home did have working smoke alarms at the time.
