Early morning highway crash results in power outage near Parksville

PARKSVILLE — Two people were taken to hospital after a highway crash just after midnight.

RCMP report a pickup truck lost control in the southbound lanes of Hwy. 19, between Church Rd. and the south Parksville exit to Hwy. 19A, just after 12:30 a.m. on Monday, June 16.

Local Mounties attended and found the pickup truck had collided with a power pole north of the Englishman River bridge.

“The two occupants of the vehicle were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” police said in a statement to NanaimoNewsNOW.

Hwy. 19 was closed in both directions for a brief period of time to allow space for BC Hydro crews to begin repairs on the downed lines.

A power outage affecting fewer than 100 customers resulted from the crash.

Estimates as of publishing from BC Hydro suggest power will be restored around noon on Monday.

There’s been no word from RCMP on the cause or contributing factors in the incident.
