Pop-up recycle depot in Parksville extended through summer & winter

Jun 13, 2025 | 11:05 AM

PARKSVILLE — More dates have been confirmed for a popular pop-up recycling depot serving the Oceanside region.

The facility, operated in partnership between Recycle BC and the Parksville Community Centre Society will hold their next collection event on Saturday, June 14 and continue with similar events twice monthly on Saturday’s through to the end of the year.

“We’re proud to be a hub for our community’s recycling efforts, these events are an opportunity to make recycling more accessible and shows residents how small actions can make a big difference,” Duane Round, president of the Society, said.

Accepted materials at 1080 Industrial Way in Parksville include flexible plastic packaging, white or coloured foam packaging, glass bottles and jars, as well as paper packaging and cardboard.

Volunteers will be on site from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day of the program.

Materials collected are taken to a recycle facility to be processed properly.

The pop-up facility started in 2023 after a gap in services was created following expiration of an agreement between Recycle BC and bottle depots in the region in 2020.

It left those wanting to recycle properly in the Oceanside area with only Nanaimo or Courtenay as their closest options.

Popularity of the pop-up events is hoped to lead to a permanent recycling collection facility in Oceanside.

A complete list of dates through to the end of 2025 is below:

  • June 14 & June 28
  • July 12 & July 26
  • Aug. 9 & Aug. 23
  • Sept. 6 & Sept. 20
  • Oct. 4 & Oct. 18
  • Nov. 8 & Nov. 22
  • Dec. 6 & Dec. 20
