MP Johns pushes forestry issues with PM Carney
Courtenay – Alberni MP Gord Johns said the first week of the new parlaimentary session has been busy, with the throne speech, speaker vote, and portfolio assignments.
Johns said he has met with Prime Minister Mark Carney twice already, and has his support for coastal forestry issues.
“I just talked to the Prime Minister again about the importance of forestry and how British Columbia needs to be part of that really important story when we talk about diversifying our economy, and the response to Donald Trump’s threats of tariffs and the impact,” he said. “He assured me that would absolutely be the case, so I’ll be certainly holding him to account on his promise to me and to the people of British Columbia, Vancouver Island and Port Alberni specifically.”
Johns said he has invited the Natural Resources Minister to Port Alberni, and introduced the first private member’s bill in this session of Parlaiment to bring parity between mental and physical health services.
