Paving work to begin through Parksville, including notable Hwy. 4 disruption

PARKSVILLE — Paving projects are poised to disrupt some traffic through the community over the next two and a half weeks.

Projects which were originally scheduled in the fall and winter months are being completed now, prior to the busy summer tourist season, with a quartet of projects starting Monday, April 14 including a nearly two week long interruption to a section of Hwy. 4.

“Haylock Paving has been contracted by the City for the repaving of locations listed here; this paving is also weather dependent and subject to change,” the City noted. “Outside of regular construction hours (usually 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.), property access will be maintained.”

Temple St. near Field Cres. will see workers on site Monday and Tuesday, April 15, before workers move over to the eastern end of Stanhope Rd. midweek.

Work on the Alberni Hwy. (Hwy. 4) commences April 22 between Despard Ave. W and Jensen Ave. W, with the area closed for paving daily through to April 25.

Detours will be in place for traffic.

The final phase of construction goes from April 28 to May 2 and will see the same area open up to single lane traffic for shouldering and line painting work.

“Residents affected by the work will be notified when paving is scheduled in their area. Please ensure vehicles are not parked or obstructing the road during paving. During construction, vehicular traffic may experience minor delays and congestion.”

More details on the work are available on the City’s website.
