DUNCAN — The Clippers lost their final playoff game 3-0 to the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

After winning 5-2 in Game 4 Nanaimo couldn’t get their offense on track in Game 5.

In.a scoreless first period Elliot Perreault hit a goal post while the Clippers were shorthanded which prompted a video review..

It was determined there was no goal and that was as close as Nanaimo would come to breaking down the armour of Capitals goalie Dylan Krick.

At the other end Chazz Nixon made 30 saves for the Clippers, including a handful of spectacular stops.

Cowichan scored power play goals in the first and third periods and an even strength goal late in the second.

The final shots were 33-23 for the Capitals with Nanaimo going 0/2 on the power play and 1/3 on the penalty kill.

Six graduating Clippers played their final junior hockey game on Apr. 11.

Nixon, James Johnson, Connor DeTurris, Luke Lavery, Cole Lonsdale and Dylan Kinch will now move on to college or other opportunities.

The all island series was the first since 2009 between Nanaimo and Cowichan.

Now the Capitals will move on to round two to host the winner of the Victoria and Coquitlam series.

The Clippers are eligible to return the majority of their roster next season.

The team went on a tremendous run leading up to the playoffs losing only five of their games in regulation in the 2025 calendar year.

A team wrap up banquet is scheduled for Apr. 14.
