Clippers still in line for home ice advantage in playoffs after OT win

DUNCAN —The Clippers are on a tremendous run, winning seven consecutive games.

Nanaimo won 2-1 in overtime in Cowichan Valley in their final road game of the regular season.

Caron Lesiuk scored in the first period and Patrick Fortune notched the overtime winner.

First star Vladimir Nikitin was solid throughout the night making 37 saves and being named the game’s first star.

Niktin and the Capitals Dylan Krick each finished with 37 stops.

Both teams were 0/3 on power plays and the Clippers were forced to kill off a 4-on-3 disadvantage for the first two minutes of overtime.

Nanaimo appeared to score on a second period power play but a goal off Dylan Kinch’s skate was ruled to be kicked in.

The victory was Nanaimo’s seventh in.a row and puts the Clippers in contention to finish third or fourth in the Coastal Division.

Nanaimo is currently in fifth place, two points behind both Cowichan Valley and Victoria, and one point ahead of Coquitlam.

While the opponent and location is unknown Nanaimo will begin the BCHL playoffs on Apr. 4.
