Nixon’s 51 saves leads Clippers over Bulldogs 3-2 in a shootout

PORT ALBERNI — The Clippers have their first four game winning streak of the season after a 3-2 shootout win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

It was tight throughout with Elliot Perreault opening the scoring for the Clippers but Jacob Terpstra knotting the game before the first intermission.

Will Subject notched his first goal in Nanaimo colours with a second period point shot to give the road team a 40 minute lead.

Terpstra connected on a power play in the final frame to send the game to overtime,

Goalies Chazz Nixon and the Bulldogs Colin Winn were fantastic in net.

Nixon especially was strong with 51 saves and second star honours.

Both teams had Grade A chances in overtime and the Bulldogs were awarded a late power play in the extra session.

After 70 minutes of hockey the shots were 53-38 for Alberni Valley with Nanaimo going 0/2 on the man advantage and 4/5 on the penalty kill.

In the shootout Cole Lonsdale scored in the first round, after a massive glove save by Nixon.

Cole Bishop scored on his second round attempt for the Bulldogs and Chase Hull won the game in round three with a quick shot from in close.

The Clippers ended the night in a seventh place tie in the Coastal Division standings with the Langley Rivermen.

They also moved within within three points of sixth place Alberni Valley.

Nanaimo has a a road game Feb. 7 in Victoria before hosting Langley in Feb. 8.
