Clippers win streak snapped in Langley

LANGLEY — The Nanaimo Clippers office weren’t able to get much going until it was too late, as they fell 5-2 against the Rivermen Friday night.

Following back to back wins against Powell River last weekend, then a mid-week matinee victory against the Cowichan Valley Capitals, the Clippers opened up a two-game road trip on the road Friday, Nov. 22.

Langley came out with four unanswered goals in the first period to open up a clear lead after 20 minutes worth of play.

Shots on goal were a little closer, 13-10 in favour of the home team.

Clipper goaltender Chazz Nixon saw much more action in the second period than his counterpart, with the Rivermen outshooting Nanaimo 14-5 in the period, which didn’t see a goal scored.

The Clippers pushed hard in the third however, outshooting Langley 22-10 and finally getting rewarded with some offence.

Joel Plante scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season, followed eight minutes later by Anthony Biakabatuka’s third to cut the lead in half.

Langley scored on a powerplay inside the final two minutes of the period to restore some buffer and cruise to a 5-2 win on home ice.

Shots finished even at 37 each.

Nanaimo wrap their weekend schedule in Chilliwack on Saturday, Nov. 23.
