Over 30,000 homes across Nanaimo, Gabriola & Oceanside without power as wind storm hits
NANAIMO — A forecasted ‘bomb cyclone’ storm system has caused swift and widespread impacts to the region’s power grid.
BC Hydro reports over 30,000 of its customers from south of Nanaimo to north of Qualicum Beach were without power as of 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Most major populated centres had major outages including large sections of Harewood, Country Club, Departure Bay, north Nanaimo and East Wellington, Lantzville, Nanoose Bay, Parksville and Qualicum Beach.
Areas on the north Island saw outages for upwards of 90,000 households and businesses.
