McNichol chosen by Conservatives

Local Conserviatives chose their federal candidate this weekend.

Kris McNichol will represent the Conservatives in the federal riding of Courtenay-Alberni in the next election.

He beat Joshua Dahling and former Parksville Mayor Ed Mayne for the endorsement.

A fourth candidate was denied the ability to run and launched a lawsuit against the Conservative Party.

Mark Donnelly’s civil suit was dismissed by Supreme Court Justice Michael Stevens in Vancouver only hours before Saturday’s nominating meeting.

McNichol will face incumbent NDP MP Gord Johns.

The next federal election is scheduled for October 2025, but could happen sooner if opposition parties pass a non-confidence vote.
