PARKSVILLE — A new assisted living facility for those living with brain injuries is coming to the City of Parksville.

A development permit was recently issued for 365 Moilliet St. South to build a pair of two-storey buildings with 28 congregate care unit bedrooms in total, along with lounge rooms, staff and storage space.

Speaking at the Oct. 21 Parksville council meeting, Coun. Joel Grenz said this is a project worth celebrating.

“The proponent selected Parksville on Vancouver Island which is, I think, something we can be proud of in the City of Parksville, and this will provide a great service for people in our community and around Vancouver Island, so I’m excited to see this come to fruition.”

One building will be comprised of four residential care dwellings each containing seven bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, a den and washrooms. Two lounge rooms, an office and a laundry area are also included.

Building two, referred to as the Coach House, will contain a recreation room, gym, library, multi-purpose room, and additional staff areas.

Outdoor amenities include a rain garden, a covered seating area, a pollinator garden, and parking spaces.

Parkville mayor Doug O’Brien is also pleased with the development and its location.

“There’s going to be a direct benefit toward those in our community, so I’m very pleased…I think it’s going to be a very considerate and compassionate care unit, and as we know, in a great neighbourhood in Parksville, so I think they’re going to compliment each other.”

The development permit application was approved unanimously, while a building permit is required for shovels to hit the for the privately run venture.
