Clippers victimized by Capitals comeback in 5-4 home loss

NANAIMO — It was a tale of two games for the Clippers in a losing cause versus the Capitals.

Nanaimo was strong in the opening period outshooting Cowichan 14-10 and taking a 1-0 lead on the first BCHL goal for Anthony Biakabutuka on a man advantage.

A strange goal credited to Ben Portner tied the game for the Capitals early in the middle frame when the Clippers inadvertently scored in their own net.

That was a spark for Nanaimo with Biakabutuka scoring again, Connor DeTurris converting a cross ice pass and Alex Hebblethewaite counting on a breakaway.

The Clippers were up 4-1 31 minutes into the game but then the Capitals started a rally.

Luca Primerano made it 4-2 by the end of the second period and Darius Bachler scored early in the third.

Cowichan tied the game on a Caden Bell power play marker and won it on a seeing eye shot from Primerano with two minutes left in the third.

Chazz Nixon took the loss in net to the Capitals Dylan Krick with Cowichan outshooting Nanaimo 33-28.

Both teams went 1/2 on the power play.

The Clippers have just completed a stretch of three games in four nights without a win to fall to 3-6-1 on the season.

They wrap up the month of October with home games against Coquitlam and Chilliwack on Oct. 25 and 26.
