Clippers lose hard fought battle 3-2 to Grizzlies

Oct 4, 2024 | 11:03 PM

NANAIMO — The Clippers battled back and fought to the final whistle in a difficult 3-2 loss to the Grizzlies.

After a strong Nanaimo start, and a disallowed goal 20 seconds into the game, Victoria earned first period markers from Malcolm Green and Reegan Hiscock on the power play.

The 2-0 Grizzlies lead stood until there was two minutes left in the second period when Cole Lonsdale sniped a shot past ex teammate Tyler Hodges.

A wicked shot on the man advantage by Chase Hull in the third period evened the score briefly.

With nine minutes left in the game Landon Mackie converted a rebound behind Chazz Nixon to give Victoria the 3-2 win.

Nanaimo pushed late with a power play and eventually goaltender Nixon pulled, but couldn’t find the equalizer.

Victoria outshot the Clippers 43-30 with Nanaimo going 1/5 on the man advantage and 1/2 on the penalty kill.

During a very busy stretch of five games in eight days the Clippers went 2-3.

They are now off until Oct. 11 with a one game weekend on the road against Cowichan Valley.
