NANAIMO — A former teacher, educational assistant, principal and Stz’uminus First Nation councillor will join the School District 68 board of trustees.

Tim Harris won a by-election for a vacant seat on the board on Saturday, Sept. 14 with 594 votes, easing past Snuneymuxw First Nation administrator Joan Brown who tallied 224 votes.

A total of 818 votes were cast during a 10-day voting period through early September.

The 50-year-old Harris has stated his desire to see more mental health and other supports available to children in classrooms, while also leaning on his past experience in education to guide decision making.
