Clippers drop preseason opener 6-3 against Cowichan Valley

NANAIMO — It was a tale of two halves in the Clippers 6-3 exhibition setback versus the Capitals.

Nanaimo led 2-1 and had the contest tied at 3-3 before Cowichan put up a blanket over the final 25 minutes of the game.

Andrew Brown, Ben Groome and Joel Plante had the tallies in the Clippers loss.

The Capitals were led by Hayden Fechner with a pair of goals while Cole Keen, Kent Moors, Jordan Bax and Brayden Crawczyk also scored.

Nanaimo was outshot 34-21 while the Clippers went 0/2 on the man advantage and 3/3 killing penalties.

The teams used both of their goalies with Chazz Nixon allowing two goals and Aidan Fischer giving up four.

For the Capitals Dylan Krick gave up two goals and Jacob Beranek was beaten once.

Nanaimo moves on to play the Powell River Kings on Sept. 8 at 1:30 p.m.

They have four exhibition games before they open the BCHL regular season on the road on Sept. 20 in Alberni Valley.
