PARKSVILLE — Search efforts are continuing to locate a man last seen walking into a wooded area by Horne Lake.

Twenty-nine year old Jordan Kirchner was last seen by a friend walking into the backcountry on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at around 6 p.m. The friend told police they are concerned for Kirschner’s well-being.

Cst. Tim Kenning told NanaimoNewsNOW the pair were in an area between Horne Lake and the Inland Island Hwy.

“He was with a friend, it’s a bit of a rock climbing area and leaving the area there was something to make this friend believe [Kirchner] needed some help. He exited the vehicle and went off into the forest on foot.”

Kirchner is described as 5’11” tall, weighing around 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Police are not certain what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance.

Crews from Arrowsmith Search and Rescue, along with Oceanside RCMP were deployed to the area but were unable to locate Kirchner.

Kenning said considerable resources have been deployed with search and rescue crews from other jurisdictions on Vancouver Island aiding in the search.

“In addition to search and rescue, we’ve supplied as many resources as we can,” Kenning said. “We’ve had a helicopter out surveying the area, we’ve had our RCMP police dogs out there looking and utilized our emergency response team…they have some unique capabilities with drones and infrared.”

Oceanside RCMP are asking anyone with properties in the Horne Lake area to check any out buildings or other structures for Kirchner.

If anyone has any information regarding Kirchner’s whereabouts, they’re asked to contact Oceanside RCMP at 250 248 6111.
