Nanoose golfer looks to continue momentum at Women’s Senior Championship

GEORGETOWN, ON — Nanoose Bay’s Shelly Stouffer is one of 123 competitors teeing off at the Canadian Women’s Senior Championship this week.

The event runs from Wednesday, Aug. 27 to Friday, Aug. 29 in Georgetown, Ontario.

Stouffer is in good form heading in after winning the Canadian Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Crown Isle Resort in Courtenay in July.

“It was a lot of fun. It was like a home game for me and I went up to Crown Isle about six times beforehand to get a good feel for the golf course. It really helped me out a lot and it had a big part of winning that tournament.”

Although this will be Stouffer’s first time playing at North Halton, she has won the women’s senior championship before in both 2021 and 2022.

She had a couple of practice rounds to get ready and goes in with a lot of confidence.

“I’m excited to go play and the golf club is excited to have us there. There’s going to be a lot of great players there and they’re saying it’s the strongest field ever in history of the Canadian Senior Am so it’s going to be a good tournament.”

Stouffer said she’s been hitting consistently from the tee box, along with her iron shots on the fairway.

She believes the short game will be a key this week.

“For putting you have to get used to the different greens and I’m sure the greens will be great out east and hopefully I’m going to be making lots of putts.”

Stouffer’s busy summer schedule will continue with two more large US tournaments on the horizon.

“I go to the Boston area for the US Mid Am and then I come home before I go down to Seattle for the US Women’s Senior Am so there’s still a lot of tournament play”.
