NANAIMO — One person was taken to hospital with apparent minor injuries after a single-vehicle incident in the city’s south end.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue, along with RCMP and paramedics, were called to a home in the 800 block of Howard Ave., just before 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21 with reports of someone injured by a truck.

Fire Rescue Capt. Jody Lucas told NanaimoNewsNOW on scene the driver was sitting next to the truck when crews arrived.

“His injuries, we don’t know the extent of them yet. He walked to the ambulance on his own and the ambulance took him to the hospital from there.”

Lucas said the driver, a man in his mid-40s, was the lone person involved in the incident.

Damage to the property appeared to be limited to a retaining wall by the garage, as well as a tree on Howard Ave.

There was minimal, if any, damage to the house itself. It’s unclear whether the owners of the property were home at the time.

Crews remained on scene while a tow truck removed the vehicle, partially blocking one lane of Howard Ave., however traffic was permitted to proceed through in both directions.

Damage appeared to be limited to the retaining wall, as well as a large scratch on a tree in front of the property. (Alex Rawnsley/NanaimoNewsNOW)
