PARKSVILLE — One person has died in a serious motor vehicle accident along Hwy. 19.

RCMP report the incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Friday, July 26 between exits 46 and 51 along Hwy. 19, just north of the weigh scales and involved just one vehicle, a vehicle delivery truck, with a passenger inside the vehicle losing their life.

Sgt. Shane Worth said the commercial truck hit the centre median while travelling northbound.

“At this point we’re not too sure on how the truck lost control,” Worth told NanaimoNewsNOW. “We are working with witnesses, the passengers of the vehicle and our collision analyst reconstructionists.”

The driver and a second passenger inside survived and were taken to hospital for further treatment.

The crash closed traffic in both directions with vehicles detoured through Parksville’s Hwy. 19A.

Worth said RCMP crash reconstructionists completed their work by noon with cleanup underway shortly after.

Both lanes of the highway re-opened around 3:00 p.m., with delays anticipated until the evening.

No details on the identity of the deceased are being released at this time.
