May 27, 2024 | 5:29 AM

NANAIMO — Plans are in motion to densify three lots on Metral Dr. In Nanaimo’s Pleasant Valley area.

A recently submitted development permit application pitches six three storey townhouse units at 5645, 5655 and 5657 Metral Dr., totaling 22 units.

The lots were successfully rezoned last fall to accommodate the proposed development.

The plan for the consolidated site currently containing a single-family home and duplex was reviewed by the Design Advisory Panel during a Thursday, May 23 meeting.

All of the proposed units are planned to have rooftop decks. (City of Nanaimo)

Twelve of the units are projected to be three bedroom units, while the remaining 10 are envisioned to contain two bedrooms for the property on the west side of Metral Dr. Backing on the E&N rail corridor.

Forty-three parking spots are included in the development plans, one more than required by the City.

A few recommendations from City staff for the project include the addition of a common amenity area.

The DAP endorsed the project and supported the variances requested, involving landscape and yard setback adjustments.

A development permit awarded by Nanaimo City Council and building permit from City staff are required before construction can begin.

The proposal includes an internal road network with central driveway connecting to Metral Dr. (City of Nanaimo)
