Fireworks to cap Family Day celebrations in Qualicum Beach

May 24, 2024 | 5:01 PM

QUALICUM BEACH — A nearly 50-year tradition in Qualicum Beach will see thousands of people of all ages converge on the community.

The 46th annual Family Day happens on Sunday, May 26, featuring a pancake breakfast, a downtown parade and an afternoon of numerous activities at the Community Playing Field adjacent to the Civic Centre.

A fireworks display staged by Quality Foods takes place on the waterfront starting at 9:30 p.m.

A detailed schedule of events courtesy of the Town of Qualicum Beach can be found here, while applicable downtown road closures during the event are linked here.

Supported by the Town of Qualicum Beach in conjunction with numerous volunteers, the Town’s director of planning Luke Sales said Family Day is an inclusive, fun-filled day.

“All of the events are free, none of the events will charge participants,” Sales said. “There is food that will be for sale, but all of the activities themselves will be free.”

Food trucks will be on hand, while activities at the Community Playing Field include numerous musical entertainers, face-painting, relay races and a magician.

“It’s not just families in the traditional sense, there’s really something here for everyone — that’s been the intention of our volunteers, staff and everyone that’s been working on this for months, it takes a lot of work to put on this event but it’s one we’re very proud of.”

Free swimming will be available at Ravensong Aquatic Centre from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Quality Foods Festival of Lights fireworks display takes place at dusk with fireworks ignited from a barge near the Qualicum Beach Visitor Centre.

A simulcast of the fireworks show can be heard on 88.5 FM The Beach.
