As school districts across the province wrestle with policies around student cel phones, SD70 Pacific Rim has made their proposed policy public.
School District officials hope to have a new plan in place for September, and have posted the proposed policy on their website to solicit comments before May 24th.
SD70 Superintendent Tim Davies says they are following the provincial governments instructions on the acceptable use of cel phones, smart watches and electronic devices in schools.
“The direction from the Ministry is to restrict cell phone use within schools,” he said. “The announcement came out pertaining to student safety, and safe from online threats, restricting celphone use and social media use within classrooms and during instructional time.”
One of the proposed regulations would allow teachers and school officials to search a student’s celphone or electronic devices, or take them away altogether and not return them until a meeting with parents can be arranged.
