NYLA Fresh Thread – A Decade of Community & Continuity

May 2, 2024 | 9:00 AM

For the past decade, the family-owned NYLA Fresh Thread has been a staple of menswear in downtown Nanaimo.

It’s been a symbol of community and continuity through some difficult times, and they appreciate the support of their customers who have been with them all the way.

With their 10th Anniversary approaching, NYLA Fresh Thread is thanking all their loyal customers for joining them on their incredible journey, and for all their support, over these past 10 years, as well as inviting new customers to come see what they’ve been missing.

Supporting local businesses like NYLA is more important now than ever.

The past few years have been difficult, as many have struggled at times to keep the doors open in the face of challenges like the pandemic. These local retailers are an important part of the fabric of the community, creating a strong and vibrant downtown.

The name NYLA comes from their aim of providing the professional business look of New York and the casual look of Los Angeles.

NYLA prides themselves on offering the latest fashions for men, with casual wear, business wear, and accessories for any occasion.

While other stores focus specifically on youth or on formal wear, NYLA brings casual, comfortable clothes for men of all ages. They sell top brands, with an emphasis on Canadian names, with sizes from XS to XXXL, in a variety of fits, including Long, Tall, Slim, and Relaxed.

And because NYLA buys limited quantities, their inventory is always unique and fresh. The goal is to have a store that’s cool, comfortable, and relaxing, a place where customers can shop without pressure.

NYLA’s location on Commercial St. has been a home for men’s fashions for over 60 years. It was the home of Rickwood’s Menswear for over 10 years, and before that it was Ken Thompson Menswear from 1957 until 1999.

NYLA is continuing this tradition of locally owned menswear stores in downtown Nanaimo.

Regular patrons know the selection and the brands NYLA carries, and the care and attention they take in helping customers.  For people who have never been to NYLA, it’s always a delightful adventure to discover their selection of brands and unique items.

It’s important for the community to stand together and show support for local small businesses. NYLA Fresh Thread is located at 206 Commercial St. in the heart of downtown Nanaimo. You can also check out their selection, and shop, at nylafreshthread.com
