Nanaimo RCMP arrest pair for allegedly stealing truck in Comox

Apr 2, 2024 | 12:09 PM

NANAIMO — Technology played a key role in reuniting a Comox homeowner with his truck.

Nanaimo RCMP Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien said on Friday, March 22 at 2:30 a.m. a Comox homeowner immediately reported his 2021 F150 pickup was stolen when he saw it exiting his driveway.

Patrols by Comox Valley RCMP weren’t successful, however O’Brien said the homeowner provided a critical piece of information.

“Sure enough about 7 o’clock that same day the truck was tracking with a GPS system to the 11 hundred block of Stewart Ave,” O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW.

Nanaimo RCMP promptly surrounded the truck and located a man and woman inside the vehicle, O’Brien said.

Westin Ferguson, 23 and Justice McKay-Saul, were both arrested without incident.

Ferguson was charged with theft, possessing a stolen vehicle and possessing a prohibited weapon in the form of brass knuckles.

McKay-Saul is charged with possession of the stolen truck.

Both were released from custody and have court appearances scheduled for April 9 in Nanaimo.

O’Brien said in cases like this quickly selling the truck is one of two courses of action thieves typically take.

“That’s a 2021 F150, it’s a very expensive vehicle. Or they use that vehicle to commit other crimes.”

The truck was returned to its grateful owner undamaged, O’Brien noted.
