Clippers fall behind early and lose 4-2 in Langley

LANGLEY — The Clippers losing streak is up to five games after a 4-2 setback in Langley.

In the first period the Rivermen vaulted into a 2-0 lead on goals by Logan Morrell and Vitaly Levyy.

Connor DeTurris on the man advantage scored the only goal of the second period to get Nanaimo back within a goal.

But it was the Rivermen who made a strong third period push.

Langley outshot Nanaimo 16-6 in the final frame and jumped out to a 4-1 lead thanks to goals by Ryan Schelling and then Oskar Komarov on a power play.

Clippers rookie Chase Hull rounded out the scoring with a nifty breakaway deke.

The final shots were 40-24 in Langley’s favour with Nanaimo going 1/2 on the man advantage and the Rivermen finishing 1/3.

The Clippers have a 2-1 record in the season series with a rematch coming at Frank Crane Arena on March 29.

Nanaimo’s only other game is the regular season finale on March 30 versus the Chilliwack Chiefs.

At the conclusion of play on March 23 the Clippers sat in fifth place in the Coastal Division standings, one point behind the fourth place Grizzlies with each team having two games left to play.
