Banner project ending
PORT ALBERNI – The popular Rotary Arts District banner project is coming to an end.
After 14 years of raising locally painted banners up on Argyle Street lamp standards, this summer could be the last.
Arrowsmith Rotary Club member Larry McGifford has led the project since inception, and said dwindling membership is partly to blame.
“We are small club and I think what happens over time is we all age and things happen,” he said. “It’s that burn-out side of it that you hear a lot in a lot of service clubs, and that that the members are working extra hard and they have to draw line in their lifestyles at some point.”
