Mar 8, 2024 | 10:08 PM

NANAIMO — The Clippers were in a scoreless game for 54 minutes in their battle with Surrey.

A goal by the Eagles Nathan Oickle woke up the offenses for the last five minutes of a Surrey 3-1 win.

Just 17 seconds after the Oickle marker Jagjeevan Phangura put the Eagles up two and an Aaron Schwartz empty netter made it 3-0 with under three minutes to play.

A late power play tally by Nanaimo’s Luke Buss broke the shutout bid for netminder Ajeet Gundarah.

Both Gundarah with 33 saves and the Clippers Chazz Nixon with 30 were stellar in net for the entire game.

On special teams Nanaimo went 1/2 on the man advantage and 4/4 killing penalties.

Surrey as won all three games in the season series with two games still to come March 10 in Nanaimo and March 22 in Surrey.

Nanaimo visits the Victoria Grizzlies on March 9 at the Q Centre and both teams are tied for fourth in the Coastal Division standings with 53 points.
