The Alberni Drug and Alcohol Prevention Society has received $1.5 million to encourage young people towards healthy lifestyles.

Port Alberni was one of 10 communities to recieve funding for Foundry Centres, providing youth with health services including primary care, counselling and addiction supports.

Minister of Mental Health and Addiction Jennifer Whiteside says the Foundry centres provide a welcoming, stigma-free place where young people can get connected with health and wellness supports and address challenges before they become roadblocks.

ADAPS executive director Debra Hamilton says the Foundry funding will add to their existing substance use, prevention and harm reduction programs for youth and families.
