NANAIMO — The Clippers played with the lead most of the night but had to be sharp for the entire contest in a well earned 4-2 win over Powell River.

Dylan Kinch scored his first goals as a Clipper including the first and last goals of the game.

After Kinch’s goal late in the first period the game stayed 1-0 until the three minute mark of the third when Connor DeTurris extended Nanaimo’s lead.

From there the teams traded goals the rest of the way.

Simone Dadie narrowed the gap to 2-1 before a solo effort by Mike Murtagh on a Clippers power play put Nanaimo back up by a pair.

Thomas Belzil banged home a power play marker for the Kings in the game’s final four minutes but Kinch sealed the win with an empty netter with 30 seconds left in the game.

Chazz Nixon was very strong in net with a 35 save performance while Justin Katz had 25 saves in his first start for Powell River.

Nanaimo finished 1/5 on the power play and 3/4 killing penalties.

With the victory the Clippers finished their season series with a 5-2 record versus the Kings.

Nanaimo’s next game is at home on Friday Feb. 9 against the Coastal Division leading Surrey Eagles.
