NANAIMO — The Clippers haven’t wasted anytime getting back to work in 2024.

In addition to a trio of games on the ice, they also announced 16-year-old Morgan Hackman as their first committed recruit for the 2024-25 season.

Hackman is playing for the RINK Hockey Academy U18 team in Kelowna and has ten points in his first 15 games of the season. The Vernon product is looking forward to joining the Clippers this fall.

“It was a great decision. I’m very excited to come to Nanaimo and it’s a great hockey organization for developing players. I know they have excellent fans too.”

To get ready for the BCHL Hackman knows he still has some things he’d like to improve.

“I really want to work on my speed and quickness. I know the next level is going to be way faster. I’m still working on my strength and vision. I’m going to have to know when to make the quick plays.”

At 6’3 and 215 pounds Clippers coach Colin Birkas feels Hackman can play a power game.

“With his size and strength the only way to get a player like him is to get him early and develop him along the way. He has the chance to be a force in this league sooner than later.”

Clippers highlights from games Jan. 5 versus Salmon Arm and Jan. 6 against Coquitlam.

As Hackman continues to hone his skills in Kelowna the current Clippers are ready for a massive second place showdown with the Victoria Grizzlies.

CLIP NOTES:

Clippers leading scoring Mike Murtagh is on an 11 game point streak. He was last held pointless on Nov. 25 and sits tied for second in BCHL scoring with 44 points.

Luke Buss put together back to back one goal and one assist games. He was given an honourable mention for the three stars of the week last week. Buss is also on a four game goal scoring streak.
