Dumont sentenced

Jean Paul Dumont’s ability to abide by bail conditions for the past 4 years, is the only thing that kept him from real incarceration, according to Judge Alexander Wolf.

The 74-year old Dumont was given a one year community sentence order yesterday for buying what he was told was stolen metal from a man that turned out to be an undercover officer.

Crown prosecutor Christina Proteau told the court he’s been at the epicentre of property crime in Port Alberni for decades, and he is known as the place to take stolen property.

Dumont was busted in 2019 in an almost identical case that sent him to jail for 5 months in 2014.
