PEAK Polar Bear Swim returns

More than 200 people plunged into the water at Canal Beach as part of the annual PEAK polar bear swim on New Year’s Day.

This was the first year back after a two year hiatus due to COVID

Organizers say the event attracted a record crowd of more than 600 in total.

An 86-year old Jean Newnham was awarded the Jim Rutherford Memorial Medal for the oldest swimmer.

This year’s event saw temperatures in the water hit about seven degrees Celsius.
