Nomination period extended for Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards

Dec 31, 2023 | 6:02 AM

NANAIMO — The nomination period for the Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards has been extended.

The initial deadline of Dec. 31 has been moved back to Jan. 7.

Nominations will be accepted in 17 different categories including individual and team athletes of the year, masters athlete of the year and grassroots and high performance coaches of the year.

Fillable forms for the 19th annual event are available at nanaimosportachievementawards.com.

For the majority of the athlete and coaching awards consideration will be given for achievements in the calendar year of 2023. Volunteers will be recognized for their long-term commitment to local sports.

The City of Nanaimo will be the highlighted area but the overall catchment zone for the NSAA extends from Ladysmith to Nanoose Bay.

Each category will be narrowed down to three finalists with winners chosen by a panel of judges.

The Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards ceremony will take place on Feb. 23 at the Coast Bastion Hotel.

Along with recognizing excellence in the local sporting community the NSAA also offers an athlete assistance program.

The program supports athletes who aspire to represent Canada on the world stage.

Partial proceeds from the Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards will help athletes currently training to achieve a spot on one of Canada’s national teams but don’t currently receive Sport Canada funding.

For more information on the categories, nominations, the ceremony or to become a sponsor you can contact event chairperson Marilyn Sullivan at 250-716-6110.
