Smash and grab at Qualicum Beach business results in thousands in losses

QUALICUM BEACH — Thieves are believed to have taken just two or three minutes to clear an Oceanside electronics store out of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.

RCMP report front windows to The Source on Memorial Ave. in Qualicum Beach were smashed around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 with thieves quickly gathering up high-value items and making a hasty getaway.

Sgt. Shane Worth with Oceanside RCMP told NanaimoNewsNOW surveillance video of the store captured the incident, which happened fast.

“It was a very quick in and out through the glass front door, they targeted the front retail area of the store and were gone very quickly.”

Worth said thieves left with a “variety of electronics”.

Losses are reportedly believed to exceed $10,000 for the store.

The store’s alarm system notified police who attended immediately, however, no suspects were located in or around the scene.

Two suspects were captured on camera inside, with one wearing all white clothing and a black face covering, using a red ‘Hilti’ bag in the theft.

Another wore a black hooded jacket with ‘Carhartt’ written in white lettering on the left sleeve. They also had a grey scarf, grey sweatpants, white running shoes and green gloves.

Worth said it’s the gloves in particular with are very distinctive.

“If anybody recognizes the clothing or the faces, the faces are hidden but sometimes people can cue into the way someone looks or their clothing, that they give us a call and speak with our investigators.”
