Port conference coming to Alberni

PORT ALBERNI – One of the largest professional conferences within decades is being organized locally for next fall.

Port Alberni Port Authority president and CEO Zoran Knezevich says they will be hosting the annual gathering of the 17 other Canadian Port Authorities along with many large marine-related businesses in September.

“It’s a great opportinity for Port Alberni to showcase what we do here, but also to showcase the region and the community,” he said. “It’s a highlight of the marine industry for Canada every year and we have great expectations of many people coming since we haven’t hosted anything like this in 25 years. Many other port authorities and the marine-related businesses have said they want to come to see the best fishing spot in Canada.”

Knezevich says most available hotel rooms have been reserved for the conference which will be based at the Best Western Barclay Hotel.

He said the conference allows island ports to attract more marine business to the area including shipping, boat construction and cruise ships.
