The former Port Fish facility is a hub of activity again, with multiple fishery and resource businesses working out of the restored building.
Operated by the Port Alberni Port Authority, president and CEO Zoran Knezevich says a variety of food products are being produced already.
“We have a number of businesses that are not seafood: we have Forests For Dinner who has a unique product that offers foraged foods for people, and we have a new business that creates packaged dinners and lunches in a box selling it to Loblaws and other large grocery stores,” he said. “So it’s not just seafood, and we hope to expand it even further to include many other products.”
Knezevich says they have applied for grants to expand the facility by another 3000 square feet.
He said the commercial kitchen facility has become quite busy recently, but rental spaces are still available.
